Article by Shannon Lueck

Dogs are considered man’s best friend. Throughout the ages and of all animals, dogs have been man’s companion. More than companions, dogs serve a variety of functions. There are working dogs (e.g., police dogs) and dogs that are used as guides for the disabled. Farmers and livestock owners use dogs for herding, and some home owners get dogs specifically to guard their property.

Whatever the primary purpose of a particular breed of dog is, it’s important that it receive proper training. Many dog training professionals will attest to the importance of having a well-trained dog. You don’t have to be a professional dog trainer to train your dog. You can do simple activities to teach your pet how to behave.

Dog training tip #1: Curbing your dog’s digging behavior

As a dog owner, you need to understand that dogs are social animals. When they are lonely or alone, dogs resort to digging. Loneliness isn’t the only reason dogs dig, though. In some instances, dogs that dig are experiencing some sort of nutrient deficiency. To make up for this condition, dogs oftentimes would eat the dirt they dig. If your dog tends to dig a lot, spend more time with him. It also pays to have your dog checked up to make sure that his health is in good condition.

Dog training tip #2: Potty training your dog

A reward-based method works best when potty training your dog. To use this method, give your dog a treat after it potties in the right place. Following up good behavior with a reward will make it easier for your dog to remember doing good behavior.

Dog training tip #3: Repetition is key

Whenever you are trying to teach your dog something — whether it’s a trick or making your dog obey a command — repetition is important. Repetition and consistency are keys that will help your dog understand a command. To test if your dog knows a command after so many repetitions, test him without any assistance. Do this at least three consecutive times to make sure that your dog’s grasp of a command is not simply a fluke.

Dog training tip #4: Communicating with your dog

When training your dog to follow a certain command or do a certain thing, it’s vital that you not just issue the command out. It’s also important that you direct your dog how to perform a command or drill as well as correct your dog if he doesn’t follow the command properly. Be consistent when you are issuing out commands and trying to teach your dog to develop certain behaviors. For instance, if you are trying to teach your dog not to chew on slippers or shoes, do not praise him one day when you see him chewing on a slipper.

Dog training tip #5: Proper timing in training your dog

It’s always best — and professional dog trainers will recommend this — to train your dog when it is still a puppy. When it comes to training dogs, it is indeed true that old dogs can’t learn new tricks. So start training your dog early.

Dog training tip #6: Let your dog know you’re the boss

Dogs are pack animals, which means they follow a hierarchy. Thus, when training your dog, it’s important that you establish yourself as the alpha dog (the leader). Your dog needs to understand that he is the submissive being. Avoid showing any fear when your dog snaps back. Doing so will break the established hierarchy you have with your dog. When your dog is doing his exercises, never allow your dog to stop mid-way or not complete the exercise. Firmly let your dog know that it should do what you, the alpha dog, wants him to do.

Dog training tip #6: Act around your dog

Your puppy will naturally want to chew on things so give your puppy an outlet for his chewing urges. You can give your puppy a chew bone to chew. If your puppy tries to chew on you, yelp loudly, fold your arms and ignore your puppy for about ten minutes. When a puppy becomes too rough on other puppies, the others yelp and tend to ignore the puppy. However, you may need to assess your puppy’s personality because he may react to the yelping by biting more and even harder. If this happens, you may need to apply a more aggressive approach.

Are you fed up with the aggressive ways of your four legged companion? With the correct this problem can be dramatically reduced. Although aggression is a difficult issue to deal with, there are different ways in which the issue can be resolved. In this article I’m going to give you top 6 -:

– If your dog hasn’t had a history of being aggressive and begins growling, biting or snapping at people, talk about it to your vet. This sudden change in his behavior can be a sign of a medical problem which needs immediate medical attention.

- Determine the situations in which your dog displays aggressive behavior and avoid them. Out of the top 6 aggressive dog training tips, this one is really important. The most vital part of training aggression in dogs is discovering the reason behind the aggression.

– This can be achieved with the help of a professional behaviorist. For example, if your dog growls when you or someone else from your family approaches his food bowl then you might be asked to approach an empty food bowl and drop some food in it. This way your dog will understand when someone approaches his food bowl he will get a treat and there is no need for him to be aggressive.

- You should never punish your dog for acting aggressively. As they say, aggression breeds aggression. If a dog is punished for being aggressive, it may cause him to show more aggression.
– You can make use of all the mentioned here, be consistent in your efforts to train your dog and stay patient as aggressive dog behavior cannot be curbed overnight. Be prepared for baby-steps when training your dog.

– The most common reason for dogs to exhibit aggressive behavior is due to the lack of their socialization when they were young. A dog will find it hard to trust people and other dogs that he doesn’t know, if he did not have lot of chances to interact with them while he was young. So, if you have a puppy socialize him during his early stages of his life and you should never deal with dog aggression problems in future.

So folks, those were the top 6 . When working with an aggressive dog, a good dog training course can be very useful. You will want to look for the one that includes a free consultation with an experienced dog trainer.

While puppyhood is a stage that requires meeting our puppies’ immediate needs, we must be careful not to spoil them. Puppyhood is very similar to the infancy and toddler stages of parenting a child. The important part about this stage isn’t so much what the puppy learns skill-wise, but rather what he experiences about his environment and his leaders! This is the most impressionable stage in a dog’s life and attitudes about his environment and leaders are imprinted on the brain as it grows. Are you ready to be a good leader and teacher? This stage ranges from two months to roughly five months of age.

Your puppy must learn to be confident with the things in her environment. Socialize her in a positive way every day to different places, textures, objects, people, noises, etc. A good rule of thumb is to take her to at least three different places per week.

Your puppy must learn confidence in herself. The more good direction you give, the more she can succeed. The more she succeeds, the more you can praise her. The more you praise her for accomplished tasks, the more confidence she will gain. Give no less than ten simple tasks per day to have her earn praise and confidence.

At this early stage, your puppy is gathering impressions of how you act as her leader and primary caregiver, but she is also developing a perspective of humans from the examples you set while raising her. How you behave and interact with your dog sets the stage and tone for the rest of the relationship. Keep your behavior positive and trustworthy to gain her confidence.

Help her to investigate things and to accept new objects with good direction and praise. Praise her for following your lead. Expose her to many different objects with a positive outcome each time. Touch the object you wish for her to investigate and praise heartily when she shows interest.

Have her do many small tasks so she can earn praise for each. Doing tasks and earning praise will help her gain confidence in doing new things under your direction. She will also learn to accept new challenges without fear.

Using the crate and other methods to limit your puppy’s freedom will help her develop an acceptance of boundaries. If this is not achieved during her first several months, she’ll have a difficult time developing acceptance of confinement and boundaries later in life.

Your puppy must also learn to be comfortable being alone. Small periods of crating in a quiet room away from the family will help her develop this confidence. Frequent breaks in between crate sessions will help her see that it’s only temporary and it’s not abandonment.

Keeping the proper chew toys available, using proper redirection techniques, and having the appropriate chew toys will teach chewing etiquette. Proper chew toys are described in Section Four.

A proper housebreaking schedule will help her learn the concept of where and when to “potty.” A good schedule will teach your puppy where and when.

Article by P. Roberts

Training a challenging dog can definitely be one of the more stressful aspects of owning a pet. When you have a dog that is difficult to train, you need to do some research and find a simple-to-do dog training technique that will work to assist you in teaching your pet which behaviors you expect from him.

The Best Dog Training Technique

The best dog training technique is one that you can use consistently to train your dog. One of the most popular, and best, techniques that you can use is positive reinforcement, with or without a clicker. The key to training your dog is being very consistent, however. The dog training technique is important, but consistency provides your dog with a firm knowledge of what you expect from him at all times. You may want to look for a book or guide to train an especially difficult dog or if you haven’t ever trained a dog before.

You may not think that providing expectations and rules for your dog is important, but a good dog training technique is vital if you want a happy, healthy dog. Since dogs are basically pack animals, they really prefer to know who is dominant at all times. This provides them with a feeling of security, and gives them the boundaries that they need to successfully follow your commands.

Benefits of Dog Training

If you have a challenging dog that doesn’t follow your directions, then you know that you need a good dog training technique to help you get problem behaviors under control. While changing behaviors is one of the benefits of training your dog, there are also several other advantages. Having a well behaved dog allows you to comfortably take your pet along on vacation, for example. Your pet will become a real part of the family after being trained properly.

You will also notice that your pet is friendlier, and doesn’t harass friends and family who are visiting. Your dog training technique will teach you how to stop behaviors such as jumping on people, which is an important safety concern with children. Large dogs that jump on people can definitely be a problem for anyone who is scared of or uncomfortable with dogs. You want your dog to be an example of a well-behaved pet, and with the right dog training technique you can easily have a dog that you can take anywhere without worry.

The right dog training techniques will turn your cute canine into a well-behaved dog. Certainly, you do not want it to jump into guests or gnaw on your furniture. So, training it is really necessary. But what kind of training should you give it? Well, experts know the best ways to train dogs. They also know what kind of punishments the dogs must receiver. After all, it is their profession. However, it is a lot better if you will handle the training yourself because dogs tend to become accustomed to their trainers. And unless you want your dog to be loyal to the expert that you have hired instead of you, you must train it yourself.

Anyway, you can purchase dog training videos and manuals to help you with the dog training techniques. There are numerous stores as well as online shops that sell these items. Nevertheless, almost all training guides will tell you the same things. So, here are a few dog training techniques that you can do. First is the body block technique. This works by taking away your dog’s space or freedom temporarily. Whenever your dog goes into an area that it is not allowed to go, correct it by body blocking its way. You just have to block it, though, and never hurt it. Do not hit, beat, or poke your dog. On the other hand, you can also temporarily take away its space or freedom by commanding it to stay in place.

Then, you can also make use of marks and non-marks. These do not always need to be verbal, though. You can use clickers, bells, or keys to create a distinctive sound. However, you must take note that it is crucial to be consistent so your dog will not be stressed and confused. A lot of dog owners become problematic because they do not implement the dog training techniques properly. They are not consistent with the marks and non-marks they use. And they also do not communicate with their dogs often. Nonetheless, if your dog ignores the non-mark, you have to follow up with an appropriate action.

This will make your dog realize that ignoring the non-mark will result in unfavorable consequences. But you must keep in mind that physical action must never be used. You can simply take away its valued resources. For instance, if your dog likes to attack the delivery boy, remove its access to the front door. You can body block it so it will not be able to reach that person. Do this every time it attempts an attack until it finally learns that attacking people is not good.

Moreover, you can also impose a no-attention rule. This is one of the dog training techniques that really work. Whenever your dog becomes hyperactive and restless, do not give it any attention. Ignore it completely until it calms down. Then, once it is calm, you can pet or praise it as its reward for being in that condition. Pretty soon, it will stop jumping on your guests. This technique best works on dogs that are always seeking for attention. However, it can be difficult to follow for individuals who cannot resist giving attention to their dogs.

It is not always your pet’s fault as they are doing what is innate. But with the proper guidance you can have them trained the way you want. Here are five tips to help you get the most out of your training.

1. Patience

The first tip you must abide by is being patient with your dog. You cannot expect them to completely change overnight. It takes time for them to learn what they are being taught and apply that into their daily lives. The last thing you want to do is get impatient and frustrated with them.

2. Consistency

While it does take time for them to learn, consistency is absolutely vital. If you work with them one day and then take a few days off, they will have forgotten everything you taught them. Take 15 to 30 minutes out of your day to work with your pup and teach them something new. Not only will you be able to train them on a specific problem, but you can also teach them new tricks.

3. Positivity

Having a negative attitude is going to get you nowhere with your dog training. Not only will it frustrate you, but it will create discouragement toward your dog. To get the best results, show them support and encouragement. Just as people do, dogs need reinforcement that they can and will succeed.

4. Use what’s best for your dog

All over the internet you will find a plethora of different techniques and programs that will supposedly guide you in the right direction. What you will quickly learn is not every method works for you and your dog. Instead, you have to search for the proper technique and training method that will work for your dog.

5. Make it fun

The last tip to help you get the best results with your dog training is to make it fun. Look at it as a time that you and your dog get to bond and have a good time together as oppose to a time you are being forced to spend with them. If you keep your training at 15 to 30 minutes per day, your dog will enjoy the time and truly take in what you are teaching. Throw in some toys with the sessions and it will be a lesson well taught.

Training your dog can be a worthwhile endeavor but before you start, there are some things you need to know in order to make training easier and more pleasant for both you and your dog.

The very most important thing you must always remember is that you are the boss! This is very important dog training advice. By nature dogs are pack animals and adhere to a strict hierarchy with every pack having a “leader”. In order to train your dog properly (and easily), you need to establish yourself as the leader early on in your relationship.

The next bit of dog training advice I will give you is. Some dogs may be more aggressive than others, some more dominant, some are more easy going but no matter what your dogs personality, you must be firm in your commands. Don’t let your dog get the upper hand or he will start to think that he is the leader. Now, I don’t mean that you need to be physically abusive to your dog – far from it. You need to show your leadership with your actions.

Another piece of dog training advice is to consider that while your dog understands you at about the same level as a two year old, he is not a human. In fact, your dog has many differences from humans that cause him to interpret your commands and act much differently than a 2 year old child would. So, do not expect him to behave like your 2 year old during training.

The dog training advice here is when training your dog, you need to be consistent. Set aside about 45 minutes or a half hour every day to work on training. You can start training your dog as young as you want but don’t be discouraged if you have an older pet as training can be done at any age.

You want to start training your dog with the basics. The sit command is a good place to start as getting your dog to sit is the basis for many other commands. Work on this one command every day until your dog has it down cold, then move on to the next command.

During training, you want to be firm. Always use the same word for each command and say the word clearly. Never punish your dog when he does not do what you want but, instead, use positive reinforcement when he DOES do what you want. Punishing or scolding will only confuse your dog so have patience when he is not behaving the way you want – the best thing to do is ignore him and he will soon learn that he only gets the reward when he performs the desired action.

The good dog training advice, I can give you here is. Try to work on training every day at first. As your dog learns more and more commands, you can slack off a bit, but training should always be a part of your relationship with your dog. It can be fun and rewarding for both of you to keep learning new behaviors and taking the training to the next level.

Dog training is a task that takes, consistence, persistence and patience but your efforts will be well rewarded with a well behaved dog as well as a stronger bond with your 4 legged friend. Training your dog properly insured not only his safety, but the safety of those around him and it can also be a lot of fun for both you and your dog! Making it fun is the best dog training advice you can have.

Calling All Dog Lovers! Allan Codling here. You’re probably looking for dog training advice because you have a dog and you want to get them trained but don’t quite know how to go about doing so. I felt that way when I first got a dog. So I wanted to show you 9 important fundamental steps to get on the right track to training your dog successfully.

Keep A Happy Excited Attitude – You should always base your dog training on positive reinforcement. During the training sessions you want him/her to enjoy the training and be excited about it so you want maintain a happy enthusiastic attitude at all times. Never display frustration. Praise or give treats when he or she displays good behaviors or obeys a command

Firm Voice – When you give commands, use a firm deep voice. Use a happy soft voice when he completes tasks or displays behavior.

When To Start Training? – You may get dog training advice that tells you wait until it matures before you start training. Some people say the best time for dog training is at 6-8 weeks, maybe even earlier depending on the puppy. It is highly recommended that you train your dog right away once you learn the proper way of course. And even if a dog is older, you should still train the dog. Never to late for dog training I always.

Don’t Punish Your Dog- This may become very difficult to do especially if you are a new owner. But negative reinforcement is not as effective as positive reinforcement. Negative reinforcement dog training advice is just counterproductive. When you scream, yell, hit or punish your dog you make him/her fearful and on edge. Your dog will never know what to expect from you meaning whether you will be nice or mean. When he/she feels this way it interferes with his or her ability to listen, respond, and absorb your training.

Patience & Understanding- Teaching your dog is fun and exciting to do however there will be times where you will get discouraged and fed up when he or she struggles to learn what you are trying to train your dog to do. It is very important to be very patient with your dog especially if it is a puppy. Remember they are trying, they just need time and practice. When you feel tired or mentally frustrated just stop the session for a little bit so you can cool off. Also keep in mind that some dogs learn quickly while other breeds take a little longer. Dog’s are sensitive and they can tell when you are getting worked up.

Extra Dog Training Advice- Training Sessions

Short But Powerful Sessions- You should never exhaust yourself and your dog with several hours of training a day. Fifteen to thirty minutes each day is more than enough to be effective. Train your dog with one command per session. Do not overwhelm them with everything in the training book. It is very easy to get excited by all this dog training advice we get and then throw everything you learned at your dog at once. Do not do this. Structure your sessions and keep them short, focused and organized.

You need to start with easy to learn commands. As your dog learns these simple commands, progressively work your way to more involved commands. This baby step approach works well for you dog. It will get your dog accustomed to training sessions and your dog will develop a good learning pattern.

Remove Distractions- Dogs can get easily excited by a lot of things and you may find yourself losing your dog’s focus through out your training sessions. So it is very important to take away anything that seems to distract your dog. Find a special place where you can work with your dog alone.

It is better for you to be the one training your dog – Many people get dogs and then just enroll them in training classes or higher a professional trainer. This is not good for three reasons. The first is you will not develop the bond with your dog and he or she will not see you as the leader, and the second is he will not be trained to know how “you” want things to be done in your household. And thirdly, it’s cheaper. Classes and trainers are getting more expensive by the minute since they charge an arm and a leg even for just dog training advice sometimes.

Follow Effective Dog Training Advice- If you are looking to learn how to train your dog you may be getting all sorts of advice from everywhere telling you to do this do that. There are a lot of good sources of dog training material out there.

There is plenty of great sources of dog training material on the internet. I found a lot of great dog training, dog behavior and dog health books and videos online and all my dogs are well trained, well behaved and very healthy because of them. So get yourself some great dog training advice and you will get your dog to be obedient, housebroken and well behaved!

I hope you enjoyed this dog training advice! Now let’s get that doggy trained!

Here Are Four Dog training Tips To Give A try , Before Making The Decision To putting Your Pet down.

1. Training sessions

The first thing you want to do is build the confidence and security of your dog by setting up training sessions. Every dog is going to have some kind of fear whether it is other people on walks, kids running around, or other dogs approaching them. For this reason, you want to set up a controlled environment to ease this tension. You can have a friend meet up with you when you go on a walk and have the friend give your dog a treat. Things like this will help them become comfortable.

2. Socialization

Many times an aggressive dog is not used to being around other dogs and as a result, they will show aggression. Fortunately, you can alter this personality and teach them to enjoy the company of other dogs. Start out by keeping your dog on a leash in an area with a few other dogs that are calm and comfortable. If your dog shows signs up anger, hold the leash tight and give it a yank here and there. Show them they need to learn to play nice.

3. Avoid aggressive adult dogs

The last thing you want to do is place your dog with an aggressive older dog. This is one of the most important dog training tips to take into consideration. Think of it as being similar to people; you do not want to surround yourself with negative people. Instead, you want to surround yourself with confident, positive and successful people. The same holds true for dogs as you want to surround them with calm and playful dogs.

4. Muzzle

The last of the dog training tips is to purchase a muzzle to use during socializing and obedience lessons. It is important you familiarize your dog with it by placing it on just before feeding it or before playing in the yard. Then, it will not be a problem placing it on before these sessions. While training your dog, you do not want them to attack another dog or person. The muzzle is a precaution and can be removed as your dog begins to make progress.

Dog is not only a simple animal .He can be your good friend, your defender and your partner .Similarly you are his teacher .As we all know that Dog is the most faithful animal among all animal kingdom .Proper training should be given to each and every dog by his owner .Once he recognize you as his leader ,than he will follow each and every command given by you to him .By following few Dog Training Commands ,we can convert over dog from simple animal to a well behaved dog .Every owner should make his dog comfortable with these basic Dog training Commands .

Being a dog lover, I observe dogs very closely .I have noticed one thing that mostly dog will get bored if you are teaching them in long sessions .If you try to teach them continuously for around 20-25 minutes, they will get bored and start neglecting your command .So always go for 5-7 minute short sessions to teach him few basic Dog Training Commands .Try to repeat these sessions again and again on same day.

Here we will discuss few basic Dog Training Commands.”Sit” is the most basic command every dog should know .Mostly dogs learn this command very easily and it will make your dog sit at very point when you use this command, “Leash Training “is another important command for all dogs and puppies .Don’t ever try to be harsh with your dog by pulling and dragging him .Let him leash properly and walk with you .Give them proper time to learn this command .Don’t try to scare them or scold them during this training.”Heel “ is another basic Dog Training Command .Dog always feel comfortable while walking beside you .If he start walking in front of you ,you can bring him beside you by using word “Heel “.Don’t pull your puppy if he’s walking forward .Teach this command properly to get good communication with your dog .”Stay” is another important command for safety of your dog .This command will make your dog sit at that position where he is .This command is very important and take few time to get learned by your dog .Another command “come” will make your dog start walking with you if he is in stay position .This is also very good and important command

All the above mention Dog Training Commands are very helpful and must for each and every dog .Don’t take too long sessions and try to make him learn in short sessions. Don’t forget to praise your dog regularly as it will make him feel comfortable with you .Don’t ever give up .Keep one thing in mind that dogs are not human beings .They take some time to learn everything .Be cool, calm and consistent with them .Take proper care of his food when he is in initial stage .Try to make him fearless and well mannered. Try to play few games with him while training session .Love you dog and in return he will give lots of love and respect to you.
